Fairfax expands operations in the Middle East with senior hires
(Dubai, 02 August 2009): Fairfax I.S., the international investment banking group, has announced the expansion of its operations in the Middle East, to develop its current activities there, and to capitalise on the long-term growth potential of the region.
The Group has hired a senior investment banking team, formerly with Dubai based Millennium Finance Corporation (‘MFC’), to lead the expansion of its operation focusing on the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region.
Fairfax has appointed Abdulrahman Al Ansari, the former Head of Distribution at MFC as the CEO of Fairfax Middle East. Ali Nadir Syed, who has been appointed Head of Investment Banking, is joining him. Ali was also previously at MFC and prior to that with Deutsche Bank in London.
The team also includes Abraham Zaarour, previously responsible for GCC distribution at MFC. He joins Fairfax Middle East as a director. Kamal Daswani, formerly with the industrials M&A group at MFC, has joined as a Vice–President. Amine Ghozzi, also previously with MFC, has joined as an analyst. Shahid Naqvi, formerly at Deutsche Bank, has been appointed Managing Director Coverage for Fairfax in the MENA region, out of the Group’s offices in Dubai.
Stefan Allesch-Taylor, chairman of the Fairfax group, said: "Throughout the disruption in the global capital markets over recent times, the Middle East has continued to prove its growing importance as both a source of capital and opportunities. The new Fairfax team is already established in the Region and will greatly increase our ability to service the increasingly sophisticated demands of that market.”
Abdulrahman Al Ansari added: “I am extremely pleased to be taking on this new role at an organisation that understands both the importance and the potential of the Middle East and the region’s fast-growing capital markets. Fairfax’s scale and resources give us a tremendous opportunity to develop a first-class investment bank for the region.”
